Gehenna, for tuba quartet, has three sections. The first is a fugue-like exploration of the melodic idea. The second is a short segment using the melodic idea and accompanying movement by the tritone employing a two-chord progression. The third sections studies the sounds created by slowly shifting the pitches by way of the tritone. It also shows many possible ways of composing out the progression. Gehenna then culminates with a return of the melodic idea harmonized by the two-chord progression
